WVU Liberty Bell Alumni Scholarship Endowment Fundraising Drive

Several years ago, a group of WVU alumni and parents created the WVU Alumni Liberty Bell Chapter to serve the growing number of students, parents and alumni living in the Philadelphia area and surrounding suburbs.  Since our formation, it has been our long-term goal to establish a permanently-endowed scholarship fund for undergraduate WVU students from the Delaware Valley.  Through the efforts of WVU Foundation, Inc., we are pleased to announce the creation of the WVU Liberty Bell Alumni Scholarship, a tax-deductible endowed scholarship fund, through WVU Foundation.

Step 1: Completion of endowment.

We are aiming to raise a total of $25,000 in pledged contributions over a five year period.  This will ensure a scholarship fund, which will provide, in perpetuity, annual scholarships for WVU students from the Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey regions.  The WVU Liberty Chapter has already donated the first $5,200 towards this goal, from multiple fundraisers.  To date, our total donated and pledged amount is at more than $9,500.

Step 2: Fundraising Details.

We are asking WVU alumni, parents, friends, as well as corporations and partner organizations to consider a five-year pledge, with annual donations being tax-deductible in accordance with the IRS.  Because the donations will be made to WVU Foundation, donations would qualify for matching gifts under many corporate giving programs.

Step 3: Scholarship Details.

This endowment shall provide scholarships for undergraduate students enrolled at West Virginia University who have graduated from a high school in any of the following counties:

Pennsylvania - Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties;

Recipients will be upperclassmen in good academic standing as defined by WVU, maintain a 3.0 GPA, and will be selected annually by the WVU Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships.

Step 4: Recognition

All donors will be recognized on the Chapter's website, as well as by the WVU Foundation.

We hope you consider participating in this endeavor.  With the growing number of Southeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey students attending WVU, as well as our growing alumni base, it is important that we create a permanent vehicle to ensure WVU's legacy in our region.
